City of Virovitica

Viroviticko Podravska county


Near the mountain of Bilogora, on the connection point of Slavonija and Podravina stands the town Virovitica. It is a governmental town of the Virovitičko – Podravska County with the population of over 20.000 people. It is located on the very important roads which are connecting Europe with the East and also it is close to Hungarian border. Beside that, Virovitica is also an easy accessible tourist destination thanks to a good road and railroad connection. Through the history Virovitica is mentioned for the first time in 1234. and king Bela IV edited here in 1242. the “Zlatna bula” document which gave independence to the city of Zagreb. Proofs of great history in Virovitica today are St. Francis convent, St. Rok’s Church and a palace of the noble family of Pejačević. Virovitica today beside of the cultural and historical values has also rich offer in tourism and recreation. Area rich with forests and rivers is very attractive for camping, hunt and fishing. It is also famous for their vineyards thanks to fertile hills. Nearby is also a nature park Papuk and arboretum in Lisičine.
