Varaždinska County
The Varaždinska County is the oldest county in Croatia. It is located on the northwest Croatia, is little more than 1 thousand square kilometers in size which makes it the third smallest county in Croatia. It has population of about 190.000 people and population density of 150 people on a square kilometer.
The county has 6 larger towns and 22 communities. Towns are Varaždin, Ivanec, Lepoglava, Ludbreg, Novi Marof and Varaždinske Toplice. Communities are Bednja, Beretinec, Breznica, Breznički Hum, Cestica, Donja Voća, Donji Martijanec, Gornji Kneginec, Jalžabet, Klenovnik, Ljubešćica, Mali Bukovec, Maruševac, Petrijanec, Sračinec, Sv. Đurđ, Sv. Ilija, Trnovec Bartolovečki, Veliki Bukovec, Vidovec, Vinica and Visoko.
This county is a baroque county with administrative center in Varaždin who has the town core mainly from the baroque period. In Varaždin was during the history over 30 conferences of the Croatian Parliament. In Varaždinske Toplice was in 1480 founded the first public school in Croatia. |
