With the population of about 50.000 people it is an administrative center of the Sisačko – Moslavačka County. In Sisak the climate is moderate continental. Ilirs and the Celts lived here already in 4. century b. C. Later the Romans had on the same location a military camp which has developed in a free roman town. The town was also an important stand to repel the Turkish army in the 16. century. Important traffic location of the town was valuated since Romans who used the town as a center for collecting taxes in this region. Besides the road transportation the town has developed river transportation. Sisak was highly developed trading and craftwork centre until the development of industry.
