Sibensko Kninska County


Center of Šibensko-kninska county is the town of Šibenik. It is a economic, administrative, cultural, historical, educational center of the county. Šibenik is located in the delta of river Krka, one of the most protected natural port wich is 10 km long and about 1 km wide. It is considered to be the first free town in Croatia. Protector of the town is St. Mihovil who is painted on the town emblem that is on the blue town flag. Typical mediterranean climate provides with hot and dry summers and mild and moderate winters. The town is mentioned for the first time in 1066. by king Petar Krešimir IV. In Šibenik is unique renesance church of St. Jacob all made of stone. For the past 40 years in Šibenik is been held the International children festival with the following manifestations for children. Šibenik was 20 years ago a strong industrial center and port but the infrastructure was damadged during the Croatia independence war after wich the industry never recovered and many factories were sold for only 1 kn.
