Šibensko – Kninska CountyThe Šibensko – Kninska County has about 5 square kilometers in size and population of about 110 thousand people. There are 5 major towns and 15 smaller communities. Towns are Šibenik, Knin, Drniš, Skradin and Vodice. Communities are Biliće, Biskupija, Civljane, Ervenik, Kijevo, Kistanje, Murter, Pirovac, Primošten, Promina, Rogoznica, Ružic, Unešic, Tisno and Tribunj. Administrative center of the county is Šibenik with 50 thousand people and which is mentioned for the first time in 1066 in the writings of Croatian king Petar Krešimir IV. The town was also nicknamed as “Krešimirov grad”. Very important seaport in Šibenik connects Croatian coast with the surrounding islands and also with Italy. In the county are Krka and Kornati, and they are both protected national parks. In this county were, before the Croatian independence war, the leading aluminum processing, food processing, textile, chemical, shipyard and building industry. After the war those industries weren’t anymore successful. For the county most important is tourism. In the county are two larger vinaries, Vinoplod and Dalmacijavino. |
