City of OsijekOsjecko baranjska CountyOsijek On the right side of the river of Drava, 22 km from Danube is located Osijek. It is the biggest and greatest city of eastern Croatia, and also governing, justice and financial center of that part of the country. This area was inhabited already in prehistory wich is proved with many archaeological findings, but the first urban settlement was formed in the time of the Romans. In the middle age Osijek was most developed by the rule of noble family of Korogy that possessed many estates in Slavonia, in wich included also the city fort. Osijek was damaged by JNA and rebeled Serbs during the Croatia independence war. Osijek is today city rich with green surfaces and has about 17 parks. |
