City of Cakovec

Medjimurska county


Čakovec is administrative, economic and cultural center of Međimurska County. It is populated with about 17.000 people. It was a roman military camp at their time and its name is first time mentioned in the 13. century. It was named after count Dymitry Csaky who built a fort in the 13. century. In the 16. and 17. century in Čakovec was ruling famous family of Zrinski. The town is rich with cultural manifestations and places thanks to the town museum, library and culture dome. It is most famous for its textile industry and construction business, but at late is developing small enterprises and specially informatics. Witnesses of a good traffic connection are railroad that is connecting Budapest with Adriatic Sea, and highway from the border with Hungary to Zagreb.
