Međimurska County
The Međimurska County is located on the northwest of Croatia and it is 731 square kilometers in size. It is populated by about 120 thousand people. There are 3 larger towns and 22 smaller communities. The towns are Čakovec, Mursko Središće and Prelog. It has the largest population density in Croatia. The cultural and administrative center of the county is Čakovec. Natural borders of the county are rivers Mura on the north and Drava on the south. There is a hot and humid climate with very hot summers and very cold winters. In the county are registered 787 companies which all together have yearly income of about 8 billions Kn. Most of people work in textile industry, manufactures, trading, real estates, construction industry, tourism and agriculture.
The county has very developed road transportation infrastructure, about 73 thousand kilometers of state roads, 263 km of county roads and 204 km of local roads. In plan is also a construction of an airport in Čakovec. Railroad station is equipped for passengers and shipping. Čakovec has direct lines with Zagreb, Varaždin, Budapest and even Split in the summer. With bus transport it is connected also with Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Zurich, Vienna, Graz, Radkersburg, Nagykanizs and Trieste. |
