Ličko – Senjska County

The biggest county by size in Croatia is Ličko – Senjska County. It has 4 larger towns and 8 smaller communes. The towns are Gospić, Novalja, Otočac and Senj, and communes are Brinje, Donji Lapac, Karlobag, Lovinac, Perušić, Plitvička jezera, Udbina and Vrhovine. It is on a Croatian border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. Most of the county is filled with mountains and smaller part is the coast. It is located between Rijeka, Karlovac, Zadar, Zagreb and Split and has a very important geographical and transportation position. Velebit in this county divides the seaside and continental part of Croatia. The Ličko – Senjska County has 4 rivers which are Gacka, Lika, Una and Korana. It this county is moderate continental, mountain, sub-mediterranean and mediterranean climate. From the northwest to the southeast of the county the climate is more and more unpleasant with lower temperatures and greater amount of rain and snow. In this county are also the national parks of Northern Velebit, Paklenica and Plitvička Jezera with 16 lakes. The island of Pag is also famous for the great night life during the tourist season. The county has 200 kilometers long coastline and 600 square kilometers of Croatian territorial sea.
