City of Krapina

Krapinsko Zagorska county


Krapina as an administrative and cultural center of Krapinsko – Zagorska County has population of about 13.000 people. Name of the town is first time mentioned in 1193. It is famous for health tourism and spa. However, it is most famous for the findings of remains of the prehistoric Neanderthal people. In Krapina was born Ljudevit Gaj who was one of the leaders of the Croatian national rebirth movement. From the historical buildings the most intriguing are church of Majke Božje Jeruzalemske, church of St. Catherine, and church of St. Nicholas and St. Francis convent. Krapina is with its moderate continental climate decorated with beautiful untouched nature with many small green hills.
