Karlovačka County

The county on the four rivers is Karlovačka County. It is one of the biggest counties in Croatia by size but also with significance. It is about 3, 5 thousand square kilometers in size and has population of about 140.000 people. The county is touching borders with Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It has 5 larger towns and 17 smaller communes. The towns are Karlovac, Duga Resa, Ozalj, Slunj and Ogulin. The most inhabited town is Karlovac with 60.000 people. Karlovac is also the administrative center of the county. The communes in this county are Bosiljevo, Draganić, Josipdol, Barilović, Cetingrad, Kamanje, Generalski Stol, Neretić, Rakovica, Krnjak, Lasinja, Plaški, Ribnik, Tounj, Vojnić, Saborsko and Žakanje. From the history is important to mention famous old roads Karolina, Josephina and Louisiana, which have been connecting Karlovac with Bakar, Senj and Rijeka on the coast. Karlovac is the most important tourist place in continental Croatia right next to Zagreb. The county is familiar for the tourism (winter, transit, town and rural, active, cultural), hunting, fishing, lake and river swimming, and wide enological and gastronomical offerings. In this county is also Croatian Olympic center Bjelolasica. The county has the biggest “bike & bed” offer in Croatia. The fall is the most beautiful time in the year because everything is painted with the colorful tree leafs making a very special scene, at least for me.
