Istarska County
Istarska County includes most of the Istrian peninsula which is the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea. There is a mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers and mild warm winters, also there are winds Bura, Jugo and Maestral. Istrian coast is very good developed area especially for tourism. In Istarska County are many natural parks. Most famous are the islands of Brijuni with about 680 vegetative species that is also a national park. In the county are also nature park Učka, protected nature of Limski Kanal, Motovun forest, forest park Zlatni rt, Palud reserve, forest park Šijana, and Kamenjak on the very south of the peninsula.
The history of Istria was shaped by the three most famous European cultures: Slavonic, Romanic and Germanic. Because of them is Istria today very rich with all varieties of styles and cultures.
Istria has very developed fishing, trading, construction, agriculture, transport, but the most developed branch is tourism. Istria is famous tourist destination well known trough all of the Europe and wider. Who wouldn’t like to come in Pula to see the amphitheatre or the Euphrasy’s Basilica in Poreč, which are protected by UNESCO.
Agro tourism, with the production of natural and ecologic food, is more and more popular every day.
Very good geographical position and good connection between Europe and Mediterranean makes Istria a very good place for foreign investment. The only question is when will this foreign money, with the blessing of the local administration, go for the preservation of natural beauties and for the raise of the miserable paychecks of the hardworking people. Does a company like Rockwool or Holcim work for the good being of the Istarska County and the people who live here or is it just a capital investment to make money without regard of the environment and the inhabitants. |
