Brodsko – Posavska County
Between Psunj, Požega and Dilj mountains is Brodsko – Posavska County. This county has about 200.000 inhabitants. It is located on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is long and narrow county. There is a moderate continental climate. The county has very developed economics, culture, trading and traffic. There are two larger towns, 26 communities and 185 inhabited places in the county. In Slavonski Brod and Nova Gradiška is located 50% of the whole county population. The other 50% of population lives in the smaller places. Administrative center of the county is Slavonski Brod. 92% of the county populations are Croats.
In the Brodsko – Posavska County are two basic traffic directions, intercontinental and interregional way. Intercontinental is stretching from west to east and it is connecting Western Europe with the Middle East. Interregional way is connecting middle and east Europe on the north with the Adriatic Sea in the south.
The county has many potentials, used and unused. Unused are nature potentials like hunting and fishing, camping and natural beauty, and on the other side, used potentials are cultural heritage, archeological findings and museums. The main museum is located in Slavonski Brod. The house in which has lived famous writer Ivana Brlić – Mažuranić is now a cultural monument. In the county is a zero category monument dating from the 18. century by the name of Brod fort. Nova Gradiška has beautiful boulevard and baroque church of St. Theresa on the town square. The church is not very well preserved. |
